CALC BC REVIEW FULL

In regards to Stewart, it does not put infinitesimals on any sort of rigorous basis meaning that it is a text full of non-rigorous heuristics. “It isn’t helpful for AP Calculus BC because it isn’t.” To be honest with you, I haven’t seen a claim more compelling.OP you are welcome to correct me, I am just trying to be helpful :) I appreciate that you value a rigorous mathematics education and agree that someone capable of self-studying AP Calculus BC would be able to take on Spivak but it is just not what they asked for. They did not mean they want something fully rigorous, they want something suitable for AP calculus BC. As for the rest of #2, this plays back into the fact they want something deeper because formulas alone are not helpful, the AP exam is on a higher level than just knowing formulas and regular problem types. I am clearly not actually calling you insane or otherwise disrespecting you. I called you insane, that has to be the chillest nonderogatory (in the sense that it is not disrespectful) name ever.Would it be lovely if everyone had to learn calculus at that level for the AP exam, yes, but that is not the reality. Secondly a book like Spivak IS NOT HELPFUL FOR AP CALCULUS BC IT ISN'T GET OVER IT. Sorry but a book like Stewart is not just straight formulas, it could get a looooot more compact - yes even after cutting out applications. My understanding of what he wants is something more helpful than just straight formulas but still manageable on his own without a teacher, for the purpose of succeeding on the AP calculus BC exam.I would presume that a student looking to study calculus on their own is most certainly dedicated.Įdit: Going through Spivak without much mathematical experience is a difficult and time-consuming process, but it can most certainly be done. It’s not an impossible task as long as the student reading Spivak is dedicated to it. Personally, I went through Spivak without a teacher and I feel fine about it.

That being said, I would like to point out that Spivak works well if the person reading it has access to some sort of community that can help them understand what they are struggling with. It is likely that the student simply wants a book that covers the topics introduced in calc BC, but in more depth than what calc BC courses typically present. As calc BC is mainly just the application formulas, he is already asking for something deeper than what is required for calc BC. He said that he wants something deeper than formulas.
